How Well Do We Stand In Battle?
By Rusty Wilson

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Ephesians 6:11

It’s important to always be ready for battle. I don’t know of anyone that wants to be in a spiritual battle, but we know one thing, the devil is persistent, and he is our adversary, and …as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8). We must be aware of his schemes and deceptions.

The Amplified Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. As the body of Christ, we are to be vigilant and be cautious at all times, being alert and being sensitive to the Holy Spirit, because He will let us know that the enemy is going to do something and for us to be ready for him.

Sometimes we won’t know how ready we are until the attack happens or until after the attack when we realize how ready we were or how ready we weren’t for the attack. That’s why we need to be ready at all times, having our faith built up and be ready to be bold and stand up and speak the Word of God at the devil and resist his temptation lies by keeping submitted to God and resisting the devil and he will flee from us (James 4:7).

I’m not saying it’s easy to stand up in battle and resist the devil, but it is possible (Mark 10:27). We have our teacher and helper the Holy Spirit to teach us and help us stand strong in the Lord and in the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10). Let’s be encouraged to keep our focus on being sensitive to the Holy Spirit to hear His voice and be led by Him to do what He says to do and say what He says to say. (John 5:19; John 12:49).
