Keeping Alert and Guarding Our Heart
By Rusty Wilson

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23

It’s important to be attentive to the Holy Spirit and hear His words of caution to watch and guard our heart. The Holy Spirit is our helper and He will help us guard our heart by cautioning us to be alert for the enemy’s attack. We must be alert and watching and recognize his attacks.

As we attend to God’s Word, the enemy with try to get our focus off the Word of God and distract us from being a doing of the Word. That’s one the main reasons we must watch and guard our heart. Another reason is for out of our heart are the issues of life, the Message bible says, …that’s where life starts.

What is in our heart comes out of our mouth as Luke 6:45 says, …for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. That’s why we need to attend to God’s Word and incline our ear unto His sayings, not letting them depart from our eyes, keeping His Word in the midst of our heart so when the enemy attacks, our response is the Word of God and not words out of feelings or anxiety, or any worldly words that are idle words (inoperative, nonworking) that bring a negative outcome to us and others.

As this is a daily process, a continuous work, let’s make sure to be watchful and guard our heart, so the outcome of life is what God attended for it to be for us and what He made provision for.
