Attending to God’s Word
By Rusty Wilson

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
Proverbs 4:20

When we attend to God’s Word, we read and hear what He is saying to us, which in order to hear it we have to listen as we read His Word out loud and do what He says to do. Attend in the Hebrew is to (cause to) hear, give heed, incline.

James 1:22 says, But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. When we make the decision to do as God’s Word says, we have to attend to His Word, we see and hear what He is saying and allow the Holy Spirit to teach us how to apply His Word. We hear, we receive, and we apply the Word daily.

As the body of Christ, attending to God’s Word isn’t a suggestion to us, but a command. Inclining our ear to what He is sayings to us is extremely important, because when the Holy Spirit speaks to us, we are hearing and receiving a NOW Word from God for it comes straight from the throne of God.
